The fitness world has been ever so interested in knowing a master of their trade’s most useful techniques, and Dorian Yates’s revelation about his diets during his on and off-season serves the purpose. Although the bodybuilder had trained less than a year before his first Olympia, his later wins however saw a drastic transition through a shift to his well-regulated regimes of both diet and fitness.

Dorian Yates started his Mr. Olympia winning streak in 1992, going up to 1997. Because of an injury he almost never participated in the last Olympia, but even when he did take part, he also took the title with it. Decades later, Yates recalls the time when he was actively immersed in his career with competitive bodybuilding.

Dorian Yates details wild protein-filled diet plans during his Mr. Olympia days

In a recent interview with Mike Hind MBE, Dorian Yates was seen talking about his food habits during his competitive career. He said, “Let’s say the average offseason I’m on 6, 6500 calories, so that’s my offseason. Contest prep I would start probably like 4,500 4,800.” Yates then moved on to talk about how simple things were often made more complex.

Furthermore, Yates also talked about protein and how one should have the right proportion with it. He stated, “Simple protein is pretty much always a constant. Yeah, so you should be a gram, gram, and a half of protein per pound of body weight so if you’re 200 lb 200 to 300g a protein you can play around with it.”

The bodybuilding legend once had a severe tricep tear right before his 1997 Mr. Olympia appearance which had shaken his mental stability. Yet, it did not break him, for he won that year with much grandeur.

Yates revealed that he felt excruciating pain when he got the tricep injury while doing a set of lying tricep extensions. With the sharp loud sound, came Yates’s uncertainty about whether to take part in the competition at all. He stated, “Almost every minute leading right up to the contest and even on stage, I was almost paranoid about anything involving the triceps, especially any mere touch when competitors often clash into one another when posing.”

Dorian Yates’s methods of training to build and maintain his physique have certainly proved its merits with the 6 titles he has won. Restricting his calorie intake to understanding and then imparting the knowledge of protein and weight ratio truly helps the present fitness community to no end.
