Maintain a proper form, says O’Hearn
Bodybuilding legend Mike O’Hearn challenges the idea that exercises fit everyone the same way, especially squats. In a short YouTube video, he talks about how the risk of squats varies from person to person. For him, squats are safe if done right.

He stated, “We’re not all equal,2 and so you going in to do a squat, risk versus reward relative to me going in doing a squat night and day. There is no risk for me. Squats are easy, easy, and formed correctly where you may not get the same result and you may hurt yourself.” He warns that the risk of injury increases significantly for those who neglect proper form.
Mike O’Hearn also talks about behind-the-neck presses, saying he can do them safely because of his experience. But he cautions that beginners might hurt their shoulders trying it. He believes it is more about mindset than physical ability. His message is simple: not all exercises are equally risky, and listening to your body and focusing on proper technique is essential to stay safe.
