The last year was indeed very magical for Derek Lunsford. Not only did he win the title of Mr. Olympia in the Open division, but his wife too was pregnant at the time. For Derek Lunsford, his priorities had pretty much changed right after the championship and he had been pretty much clear about that.
Lunsford wholeheartedly turned towards his wife, taking care of her, and also enjoying his off-season. A few days ago, he was gifted with a baby girl, and he is over the top about it. Derek Lunsford shares his duties as a father
The official YouTube page of Desktop Bodybuilding took to their channel and shared an interview of bodybuilding champion Derek Lunsford by Xavier Wills. In the video, right after two weeks, he was asked how he feels about being a father. Lunsford said that he is extremely happy to have a perfectly healthy child and mother at home.
He goes on to add how he has changed more dirty diapers than he could ever imagine for the baby in the past two weeks, ever since she was born. And well, that is because they have their respective duties. Lunsford said, “This is how it kind of worked. Gelson has taken the feeding duties and I have taken the baby-changing duties.”

Despite all the work, he is extremely excited to abide by all the responsibilities as a dad. He states how, seeing her wife go through the process of giving birth, was incredible, and the moment he heard his baby cry, he got very emotional. That was when he first got to taste fatherhood, and well, it was indeed amazing as he says. Further in the video, he even talks about his 2023 Olympia win.
Derek Lunsford reveals how his life turned around after the win
Derek Lunsford is over the top after winning the Olympia title. He says, “When your title is Mr. Olympia bro, it is not just an unbelievable moment in life. It is truly life-changing and it’s crazy.” He then went on to add that the feeling is so unreal, that important people keep calling him and asking him out for dinner, and it is havoc with phone calls coming in all the time.
He has even received a lot of great opportunities that involve him traveling around the world. And that is one of the biggest accomplishments because the small-town Indiana guy in him had dreams of traveling all around the world one day. And well, winning the Mr. Olympia is getting him that for free! And he has never been happier in his life.
