Dorian Yates, who brought in the mass monster era and HIT method of workout also had to go through a lot of trial and error before he found the perfect way to get shredded for participating in the Mr Olympia.

He recently gave his wisdom on gaining the most shredded muscles for the competitions while narrating how he gained the best shape before the 1995 Mr Olympia.

An injury-free year helped Dorian Yates in 1995 

In a recent Instagram post, the 6-time Mr Olympia winner spoke about the 1995 Mr O preparations where he got shredded to the bone and his muscles were prominently visible. His method had proven to be correct and, as per the caption, 1993 and 1995 were his top years. He posted a picture from the 1995 pre-judging round and even though it was not his best pose according to him; he liked his performance.

The champion also explained that the major reason for his amazing conditioning was that he had an injury-free year that helped in his overall training and did not cause a hindrance. The second reason was that he did not overdo his diet preparations. His aim was to have an absolutely bone-dry, shredded look, but also look fuller with all the muscles. Yates wrote, “I believe I got down to 3% body fat. We did use the skin fold calipers, but once you get past a certain percentage there’s no real way to check unless you have a scan. But you can just tell from the faces when you resemble Skeletor… that’s when you know!”

Yates always abides by progressive overload and the high-intensity workout method that has benefited him in his bodybuilding career. He often advises young bodybuilders to also go through the same training.

In a previous video, the mass monster was speaking about progressive overload, and how to increase once weightlifting exercises slowly, rather than drastically. He also narrated the fact that if a particular workout session does not benefit a bodybuilder for one month, then it is better to change the routine.

He suggested, “I suggest you review your workout plan and write down the numbers you’re hitting. Use this as a base and each week aim to beat it.” HIT followed by a light recovery phase of 2 weeks is the best way to have the best results, according to the English bodybuilder.
