A major advocate of intense training in order to yield results in the field of bodybuilding, Dorian Yates is one of the greats of the sport. Having won 6 consecutive Mr. Olympia titles, the English bodybuilder’s era from 1992 to 1997 saw many of the changes in the sport. Yates’ advice on workout sessions at the gym

In his latest Instagram reel, Yates focused on the fact that more gym hours did not mean that one was getting optimum productivity. Instead, he said that if someone worked out for a lesser time period, yet more intensely, it would have a bigger effect on their physique. He wrote, “When it comes to bodybuilding, less is actually more… if the intensity is there! Short, hard, intense workouts are what I recommend.” The bodybuilder further mentioned how instead of working for 2-4 hours would not be beneficial to gain muscles, because if it did, workers at mines, as per his example, would have 20-inch arms.

Moreover, Yates focused on the fact that although he feels it is extremely simple, it is not easy. Thus, he stated, “And actually, it is quite simple, nothing needs to be overly complicated. But easy? Oh definitely not! This is where the focus and intensity comes in. You must be prepared to go to a dark place and battle your way through to come out the other end.”

Only a few days ago, Yates had talked about the right way of working on one’s weaker points to achieve success in the sport.

Dorian Yates’ idea of improving on weaker points

Yates mentioned how a bodybuilder often tries to improve their weaker body parts by frequently working on it. However, Yates suggested that instead of doing it more frequently, one should put it as one’s foremost priority and then intensely work on it. He stated, “A slow and controlled motion, with emphasis on the negative in particular and a squeeze on the static. Go to failure and then, beyond. Use techniques such as extra negatives, assisted and forced reps too.”
