Greg O’Gallagher recalls why Arnold Schwarzenegger was booed on stage

Greg began his video by explaining how Mike Mentzer had disliked the Austrian Oak. He said, “Mike was remembered for a few things, one of which was his dislike of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He actually retired from bodybuilding in protest of Arnold Schwarzenegger.” The fitness influencer then continued to pronounce how Arnie had won the 1980 Mr. Olympia after his five years of retirement, and a considerable portion of the fitness community booed him on the stage.

O’Gallagher revealed that most competitors walked off the stage after Schwarzenegger’s victory announcement. He also said that Mentzer never liked Schwarzenegger’s training method of working out six days a week. He emphasized that Mentzer and Yates had a similar approach to training, believing in low-volume workouts instead of extensive ones. Mike usually preferred these brief, intense workouts because he felt they were optimal for muscle growth.

Tom Platz, the Quadfather, had once briefed the bodybuilding community about another side of the infamous feud between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mike Mentzer.
