This year has been full of ups and downs for the American tennis star, Taylor Townsend. She started her season by winning the doubles event alongside Katerina Siniakova at the AO. Following that, they went on to win the Dubai Tennis Championships as well. But the pair failed to win the title at the French Open and Wimbledon. However, despite failing to find success in the singles event, Townsend managed to overcome numerous hurdles and qualify for the main draw of Wimbledon for the third time this season. After making it to Wimbledon, she spoke about the challenges that came her way.
“I’m really excited to be here, it’s been a bumpy road to get here. (I) had been out for two months since Miami with a concussion.” Townsend also spoke about how she ended up rolling her ankle just before Wimbledon, in the first round of the WTA 125K Grado, Italy. Having said that, Townsend claimed she is hungry and ready to compete at the grass court major while asking her fans to stay tuned for a phenomenal return of the champion. However, after losing three matches in a row, she went down to her compatriot Sofia Kenin in the first; in the doubles segment, she failed to retain her crown. But that chapter is over now, as she is currently gearing up for the North American hard-court swing. But before that, she was spotted enjoying a brief moment with her family!
Taylor Townsend recently shared a video clip on her IG account with the caption, “As I move into the next phase of the season, I wanted to pause and share this moment. ❤️ After being gone for 7 weeks, this was everything I was envisioning it would be! This type of love is priceless✨ Quick stop at home, but we are back on road ✈️ ⏭️DC.” In this video clip, we can see her son Adyn Aubrey running in along with their pet dogs to welcome Townsend at their home. Seeing this adorable moment, Ben Shelton dropped a heartfelt reaction (“🥺“) to the post, and even Ons Jabeur couldn’t help but react, “❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

But that’s not all! Earlier this year, when she won the AO title, Shelton was among the first ones to congratulate her on her success. Following that, when Ben Shelton broke into the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings, Taylor Townsend gave him a shout-out on IG, saying, “Proud of you, my bro.“
Talking about their close bond, Townsend once revealed, “You know, me and Ben had some really awesome ones when we were playing with each other. I mean, his little phone thing is super swaggy. I love that.” Last year, Ben Shelton was even spotted sharing a wholesome moment with Taylor Townsend’s son Adyn. Shelton even fist-bumped the child and showed him his sunglasses while he sat on his mother’s lap. This recent IG post, which was shared by Townsend, reflects two things: first, we can see how much she’s loved by her peers, and second, it also shows us how much she misses family while on tour.
Taylor Townsend talks about the challenges of being a tennis mom
Taylor Townsend welcomed her son, Adyn Aubrey, on March 14, 2021. Being a working mom is never easy. However, she claims that she tries her best to make use of her time fully when she’s with her son and also lets him know that she’s leaving him for a reason (while on tour).

She is often seen sharing a few glimpses of their adorable moments on her social media accounts. For example, a few months ago, the tennis star was spotted making toy dinosaurs with her son. However, despite juggling different roles, maintaining a balance between her motherhood and professional life becomes somewhat challenging, even for someone like Taylor Townsend.
A month ago, she broke down in tears while narrating her personal ordeal amid the absence of her son, Adyn. She revealed, “I cry many nights when I’m away from AJ, but I have to sacrifice now. I just pray it’s worthwhile.”
During an interview with Newsweek, Taylor Townsend also gave an honest assessment of the difficulties of being a tennis mom. “I honestly had a lot of guilt at home when I was with my son, because I felt like I had no time. I had to train, I had to do gym, I had to do all these things, and I have someone else watching him, but I’m here. So, how come I’m here, but I still don’t feel like I’m spending time with you. So it was like – I – and then I’m home for three days, four days, and they fly by, and I’m, like, oh my God, I’m about to leave again.“

She also spoke about the shift in priorities after parenthood, the challenges that make her journey even more admirable. This has also been the much needed push that brings out the best in her when she’s away from her son. She will face Colombia’s Camila Osorio in her first qualifier match at the Citi Open. Do you think Townsend has a chance of making a long run here?
