The 28-year-old Australian has almost reached McEnroe’s level of notoriety due to a series of on-court outbursts, racket smashing, arguing with the officials and even yelling at the spectators. Recently, his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, gave an interview to ‘Stellar’ where she reflected on her first impression and subsequent feelings about her boyfriend. She was initially not too keen on the idea of Nick Kyrgios because of his reputation with the Australian media as a ‘brat’.

They began dating each other in late 2021. Nick Kyrgios has often highlighted the fact of how his girlfriend has been with him through his ups and downs in life. But it took time for Hatzi to know the real persona behind the ‘brat‘ tag. During her latest interview, she stated, “I definitely had my walls up because his reputation kind of threw me off a bit, which is unfair.”

Costeen Hatzi further added, “In hindsight, I should have just been a bit less judgmental. He was the complete opposite (of what I expected). I thought he was going to be rude, but he was super respectful, nice and caring. We spent every single day together for a year, we fell in love pretty fast, we loved being around each other, we love each other’s energy.”
In 2022, Nick Kyrgios spoke about the mutual admiration he shares with his girlfriend. Kyrgios said he’s very lucky to have Hatzi in his life. The famous English businessman and Talksport host, Simon Jordan once slammed Nick Kyrgios and even called him a ‘silly brat.’ It all started when Nick Kyrgios hit out at Tennis Australia for overlooking him for the award as the country’s best tennis player in 2022. Jordan stated, “John McEnroe was awful with some of his on-court behavior, but he won…But this guy [Kyrgios] doesn’t win.“
He further went on to add, “Some of what he does is fair play, like calling out people in the crowd for being drunk and what have you, but sometimes I think he is a silly little brat who doesn’t act like an adult, he acts like a child.” Two years ago, even Piers Morgan introduced Kyrgios as “one of my least favorite people.” But do these negative comments affect the couple now?
Nick Kyrgios believes despite people having their opinions and putting negative comments on social media, the couple has an understanding relationship. He said that Costeen Hatzi knows all the ‘whirlwind‘ of his life and they have now successfully managed to establish boundaries that they both respect.
