Los Angeles has long been a hotbed for tennis legends. This is because California has the highest number of tennis courts in the US, which makes it a prime destination for aspiring and pro athletes alike. However, the beautiful state has recently been ravaged by devastating wildfires, with 16 lives lost and more than 10,000 structures damaged. Amid this tragedy and chaos, Morgan Riddle, the influencer girlfriend of tennis star Taylor Fritz took to social media to express her heartbreak.

Riddle is currently in Australia alongside Fritz for the ongoing Australian Open, where the latter will start his campaign on January 14 against fellow American Jenson Brooksby. Their previous head-to-head was in the second round of the US Open 2021 where Brooksby won the match in a four-setter by (6-7) (7-6) (7-5) (6-2). And, he might pose a significant challenge to the Wiorld No. 4 again. While Riddle is all set to cheer for her boyfriend in this upcoming encounter, she is also concerned about the multiple wildfires that have spread across Los Angeles.

The Palisades fire has burned through 22,660 acres and till now only 11 % of it has been contained, while the Eaton fire, near Pasadena, has scorched 14,000 acres and is 15 % contained. Authorities report that at least 13 people are still missing, and the scale of destruction is vast. The economic toll is expected to be approximately $150 billion. 22 people have been arrested as well so far for curfew violations, burglary, and looting in the affected areas.

Despite the focus on tennis, Taylor Fritz and Morgan Riddle cannot ignore the devastation back home in LA. Riddle shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram story recently, saying “Taylor & I are grateful to be safe but just completely heartbroken and devastated for our community.”

Fritz himself voiced his feelings about the situation, stating, “It’s insane to see everything going on, especially while I’m away. I mean, everyone that’s in L.A., stay safe.” He also urged his fans and the people of LA to support Los Angeles-area wildfire relief efforts, adding, “Make sure to donate if you’re able to.” Fritz’s call for action highlights the importance of coming together during this challenging time.

As Los Angeles is gripped by chaos due to wildfires, many athletes and sports communities have come forward to gather aid for what is supposed to be the costliest wildfire in US history.
