Novak Djokovic has been struck with a major blow at this year’s United Cup. The main purpose of playing here was to get some matches under his belt ahead of the Australian Open. However, the Serb faced minor issues on his wrist at yesterday’s practice.

Despite battling through in yesterday’s tie, the mighty Aussies gave him a run for his money. In the ongoing match against Alex De Minaur, Djokovic faced his toughest challenge of the year so far when the injuries worsened.

Novak Djokovic faces a major scare ahead of Australian Open

During the first set of his tie against local boy De Minaur, Djokovic was involved in some gruesome rallies. In the 3-4 changeover break, the physio was out in the middle to look after his wrist. Djokovic looked in pain and ended up losing three games on the bounce, handing over the set to the Aussie.

Djokovic’s agony did not end there. He later went on to admit that his pain would increase as the match went on. The fans were not quite pleased with him persisting to play.

Djokovic eventually ended up on the losing side against an opponent he loves facing.

Djokovic falls against De Minaur

Alex De Minaur struggled big time against the Serbinator when they locked horns in Australia last year. However, he managed to get his revenge this time around, albeit against a subpar Djoker. The 24-time major champion failed to break his serve in the second set and conceded a 6-4, 6-4 loss to the Aussie Number 1.
