Frances Tiafoe’s Australian Open journey may have ended sooner than expected, but the American star is making the most of his time in Australia. The former World No.10 suffered a second-round exit in Melbourne but didn’t let the loss dampen his spirits. Instead, he spent quality time with his girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, who has been by his side through thick and thin. Find out what the American tennis star had to say about it.
Broomfield, a former NCAA tennis champion, shared highlights of their Australian adventure on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse of the couple’s life off the court. Her post featured a slideshow of 20 photos capturing unforgettable moments. From boat rides to delicious meals and close encounters with Australia’s unique wildlife, she made the most of her time. Broomfield captioned the post, “down undaaaa🇦🇺.” The final photo was a sweet picture of her and Tiafoe, both smiling for the camera.
The post caught Tiafoe’s attention, and his comment on the photo stole the spotlight. “Last pic everything,” the American tennis player wrote, summing up his feelings in three simple words.

Tiafoe and Broomfield’s bond goes back nearly a decade. The couple met in 2015 when they were both competing at a high level in junior tennis. In an interview with Essence magazine last year, Broomfield shared how their relationship began.
“We both played junior tennis at a very high level. I’m from Canada, so I was playing for my country, Frances was playing for the States. And then one of our mutual friends was like, ‘Well, you guys actually would be really good friends.’ So we started talking then and became best friends for a bit. It’s been eight, nine years now. It’s been a journey,” she said.
Over the years, their relationship has grown stronger. Broomfield has been a constant source of support for the former US Open semi-finalist, as she regularly travels with him, cheering him on during his best moments and helping him navigate the lows.

On the court, things haven’t been as smooth for Frances Tiafoe lately. Despite reaching the semi-finals at the US Open twice (2022 and 2024), he has struggled to find consistency in other Grand Slams. Since the start of 2023, he hasn’t progressed beyond the third round at any major outside of Flushing Meadows.
This year’s Australian Open was no different. Tiafoe faced a tough battle in the second round against Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan. The two traded sets in an intense five-set match, but Tiafoe ultimately fell short, losing 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6.

Despite the scorching Australian heat, Broomfield was in the stands for both of Tiafoe’s matches. The extreme weather conditions didn’t stop her from supporting her boyfriend, although it took a toll on her. “The heat today was something special. Almost took me out… several times,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
Her background in tennis gives her a unique perspective when it comes to helping Tiafoe deal with the pressures of professional tennis. In her Essence interview, she opened up about how she supports him after tough matches.
“I think for me, I’m blessed to have a tennis background. So when he’s going through things, we don’t just talk about it on the surface level like, ‘You can win next time.’ We’ll actually sit down and work together and break down what’s going on. And I think that’s something that is unique to our relationship is the ability to go deeper and the ability to actually talk about what it is that he’s doing well, what it is that he’s not doing well,” said Broomfield.

While Tiafoe’s Australian Open campaign has come to an end, there’s still plenty for American tennis fans to cheer for. Madison Keys and Ben Shelton have both reached the semi-finals in Melbourne. Keys is set to face World No.2 Iga Swiatek today while Shelton will take on World No.1 Jannik Sinner on Friday.
Even though Tiafoe didn’t go far this time, his journey continues with his biggest supporter right by his side. What’s next for Big Foe and Broomfield as they move forward together?
